#10 – Bounty Hunters
Record: 70-130-10
Weeks: 1-20… seriously… by week 12 he was 1-11 and still waited until the last week to start playing for 2010? That’s some misplaced faith right there, and actually, some missed amusement… ask Snot how much fun it is to plan for next year.
Hitting: 1 – BH is last overall in Runs, HR and RBI. Not just last, but very last. They are the only team with less than 840 runs (782). They are the only team with less than 207 HR (182) and they are the only team with less than 797 RBI (690!!). Their average is ranked 2nd overall, which can be attributed directly to Ichiro’s presence. Michael Young and Aramis Ramirez are the only 2 players currently on the roster with averages over .300 besides Ichiro’s .360. In week 8, BH set the record for average in a week posting a .355. If that average were simply .300 (which would win most weeks), BH falls from 2nd place into a 3 way tie for 4th (.279). BH probably should have hit the transaction max each week trying to correct this offensive nightmare, and he’ll need to be much more aggressive next year during the season if he wants to bump up these numbers and contend for the playoffs in 2010.
Speed: 2 – BH did have some decent speed guys in Ichiro and Bourn, but since Bourn was moved, the running has slowed dramatically. If Bourn was still here, the speed would be about a 5, but moving Bourn was certainly the right move.
Starters: 1 – tied for the 2nd fewest wins, 4th highest ERA, 2nd highest WHIP, 2nd lowest K/9. Sigh… even if Peavy was healthy, he’s not going to make the difference here. The roster is full of ok guys with era’s in the high 3’s and K’s in the low 7’s. There are pseudo-aces in Zambrano and Marquis, and big let-downs in Dempster and Harang. Let’s move on…
Relievers. 1, but again, BH moved 2 quality closers (Papelbon and Valverde) at the trade deadline, so at one point, it was much better. However, there were 7 of the top 25 closers in terms of save were claimed off the FA pile, and not one was grabbed by BH.
Odds to win it all: Infinity to one, barring divine intervention… for 2010.
Bonus Coverage:
Bounty needs to become less married to his roster next year. How in the name of Nick Esasky is Garrett Atkins still owned in this league?? Atkins should have hit the road in June once it became clear to everyone that, you know, he was terrible. That’s not hyperbole either… he was TERRIBLE. Yet there he sits in BH’s 1B slot with his .229 average and 8 homeruns on September 2.
#9 Legends
Record: 88-108-14
Weeks: 8-9-4
Hitting: 4 - Legends is the team leading the ‘legalize roids!’ bandwagon. How else are Manny and A-Rod going to stay dominant into their late 30’s?
Speed: 7 - Figgins and Upton are 5th and 6th in SB’s this year. If Upton can ever bring the rest of his fantasy game along with his speed, he’d be a top 10 player, but as it is, these guys can run. Mark Reynolds has stolen 22 bases this year to propel his season into ‘top 5 surprise season of the past 5 years’ status. The only reason this number isn’t a 10 is because of the leg injuries to Beltran and Reyes. Blog needs to see their speed again before Legends rules the basepaths, and since that’s not going to happen this year, 7 it is.
Starters: 3 - It was much better before the trade deadline, but as it stands now, it’s a slew of 3rd and 4th starters who define mediocre. (See Lowe, Derek and Pettitte, Andy).
Relievers: 2 There are 2 waiver closers here. They’re not elite, but they’re still closing games, and since Legends is out of the playoffs, there are at least 2 teams (initials BB and BF) who will be watching them secure meaningless saves in the consolation tournament as one of them loses saves in the playoffs.
Odds to Win it All: 100,000,000,000 to 1, but they’re down to at least 100,000 to 1 for 2010…
#8 Brain Freeze
Record: 96-105-9 (record the past 3 weeks? 6-24… it’s now the #4 definition of ‘choke’ on wikipedia.)
Weeks: 8-9-4 (same as Legends, but if the season ended 9/2, BF would actually be in the playoffs… bizarre)
Hitting: 8 – BF is 4th in runs, 1st in HR, 2nd in RBI and 3rd in average. Hitting was not this teams problem… unitl the past 5 weeks. Out of 25 hitting categories, they’ve won 5. That ratio is step #2 in the ‘how to plummet from the #2 seed to #8 seed in 5 weeks’ manual. Still, they haven’t been eliminated yet, and they get to play BH in week 22.
Speed: 2 – 2nd to last in steals to this point, BF is very fortunate that Bartlett and Cruz decided to have breakout campaigns, otherwise the speed would be a -2. No true burners on the roster means that BF will probably not win this category down the stretch… (hopefully, if they take the #6 seed).
Starters: 4 – This would be a 6 if Halladay had been dealt and went turned into CC or Lee post trade. Instead, Doc has made it clear that his heart and arm aren’t in it down the stretch, and by extension, neither is BF’s rotation. Lester, Lilly and Weaver are all ownable, but between them you get a 3.50 era, 1.20 whip and 8.5 K’s (7 without Lester). Those are winnable numbers, but when you have to rely on De La Rosa, Anibal Sanchez (??) and the Tiger-terrible Washburn, you’re not going to win many pitching categories in the playoffs.
Relievers: 2 – coincidentally the # of closers on the team. Wilson and Gonzo were closers at one time, but right now they’re simply % guys who may luck into a save. Lidge, though a closer in title, stinks, so he’s just as likely to blow up your ERA as get a save these days. Next year, your team name should be ‘Brian Wilson?’
Odds to win: 500-1. Since I’m typing this on Friday and BF has a 9-0 lead and the current 6th seed, this is a lot better than the trillion to one he would have had on Monday… Here’s hoping that’s not a trend. (again, I’ll have the 3 seed)…
#7 Karma Kameleons
Record: 93-102-15
Weeks: 10-10-1
Not going to waste a lot of time here since KK didn’t find it necessary to waste time on his own team. Too bad… he was 4-2-1 down the stretch and had legit shot at sneaking into the tourney. Adios.
Hitting: 5 – pretty average across the board. Some nice pieces, and the overall #’s could have been better with some moves here.
Speed: 0 – Juan Pierre got all his SB’s for Snot, Damon doesn’t run anymore, and Prince Fielder too fat.
Starters: 6 – 2 aces (Lee and Verlander) but a bunch of average after that. (Zach Duke? Ew.)
Relievers: 6 – 3 elite closers.
Odds to win it all: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1… if through some ridiculous miracle KK makes the tourney and wins, I quit fantasy.
#6 Bobz Boyz
Record: 97-98-15
Weeks: 10-10-1
This number’s probably going to change this week, which is bad news for the Boyz, because the playoffs start Monday. Overall, though this season was still a disappointment based on the starting position (done with the draft by the 13th round…), it’s a vast improvement over their rookie campaign. If this trend continues, the Boyz may win a title by 2014… if Regs and Snot are banned from the internet.
Hitting: 3 – Look at all the disappointments still on the roster: Berkman, Quentin, Ramirez, Bruce, Ludwick… even Markakis. They all produced in some fashion, but none lived up the pre-season expectations. If ½ of these guys had stepped up, this could have been a very different season.
Speed: 5. Ellsbury himself can win steals in a week. He leads the majors and has put up decent across the board numbers along the way. Choo, Aybar and Ramirez have done some running, but not enough to keep the overall numbers above mediocre.
Starters: 4 Sabathia and Cain are both very good this year, but just not quite fantasy aces. The K/9’s are both under 8, and fantasy aces have to get above that #. Garza and Shields were average, and there was never really a consistency to the back end of the rotation. Should the Boyz have at least made an effort to get Haren/Lackey/Beckett? Yes… yes they should have.
Relievers: 0… let’s move on…
Odds to win it all: 5,000,000 to 1… it’s not that easy to go from down 8-2 to up 8-2 in 3 days, but that’s what BB has to do.
Teams 5-1 will get posted later… at some point… maybe…

Week 15 2009
Regulators DEF Swine Nine 9-1
My, my, my… It’s clear that Swine Nine has been to favorite in 2009 right out of the gates. It’s also clear that not many conclusions can be drawn for the All-Star week results. Who’s to say what would happen in the 3 days of stats excluded from this shortened week? Even so, the records count just the same, and this score looks very sweet from the Regs side (Only 2 RBI kept Swiney’s name from changing…). With this win, Regs jumped from 5th place to 3rd place, and now sits just 4.5 games back of Brain Freeze for the CAN division lead (BF and Regs battle in week 16). This is only Swine’s 3rd loss of the season, and really, the numbers weren’t all that bad, but at least for a week, the #1 overall spot is no longer an automatic for Swine. Swine will take on Bounty Hunters in week 16, so in the blink of an eye Swine could be .500 over the past 2 weeks, but this is a big a ‘must win’ between a #1 and a #10 seed that you can have. Regs meanwhile finally got the offense to go along with the stellar pitching he’s gotten all year. Regs has the best ERA, WHIP and K/9 so far, and also has the most wins. Regs 5 SP’s are all ranked in the top 21 SP’s overall, and they just traded away a 6th for much needed MI help. Regs also has 4 of the top 15 closers… wait for it… none of which he drafted! Tada! If the offense can take 2 categories a week (and Regs is 12-3 in SB), they are going to be tough to beat down the stretch.
Stud of the Week: Seriously? Nyjer Morgan? Ok… 4-0-1-4-.529
Dud of the Week: Several options, Drew, Blalock, Billingsley and Loney all stunk, but Swine needs Joe Mauer to be a little bit more like the Super Joe we saw back in May: 1-0-0-0-.077
Jobu’s Hats for Bats DEF Bounty Hunters: 8-2
For the 2nd week in a row, Bounty Hunters put up some very solid numbers… and got smoked. It’s a terrible combination to be bad and unlucky, but that’s enough about BH for this week. Jobu busted out of his 3 week slide in a ferocious way and leapt back into 5th place with this very impressive performance. Jobu had hit 26 home runs over the past 3 weeks ( about 8.5 per week). This week Jobu hit 11 in only 4 days! Jobu posted an ERA of 0.89… and lost! Both staffs only gave up 2 runs, but BH had a few more IP to take it. Jobu batted .359 which would be the new high water mark if short weeks counted in the record book (they may for Yahoo, but not for Blog).
Stud of the Week: Thor was very Thorish once again, but so was Frankin Gutierrez and this week’s Stud, Yunel Escobar: 4-2-8-0-.500
Dud of the Week: Carlos Beltran… oh wait, he’s on the DL. Jose Reyes… oh wait, he’s on the DL. Randy Johnson oh wait, he’s over the hill and on the DL. Let’s go with Garrett Atkins then. When your keeper is healthy but only plays in 1 full game over 4 days, you may need to go get Billy Butler or somebody… 0-0-0-0-.000.
Bobz Boyz DEF Ryan Howitzers 5-4-1
Well it may have taken longer than Blog would have predicted, but Ryan Howitzers has fallen out of the top 2 of the CAN division for the first time in 2009. They’ve now lost 4 of their last 6 weeks and watched the Regs leap into 2nd with a .5 game lead. Neither team really put up solid numbers in this matchup. Speed and Power were low (12 HR/SB combined between the 2 teams) and the %’s were pedestrian. As far as the Boyz are concerned though, the important this is that this is their 3rd win in a row, and they are now only 3 games out of the loss column for the 6th and final playoff spot (beware Snot…). This is actually the first time that the Boyz have ever won 3 weeks in a row! Blog’s not sure if that’s something to celebrate or move past quickly. The #6 and #7 seeds face each other in week 16.
Stud of the Week: Very tough to find a stud here. Matt Cain had the best across-the-board line though: 1-0-1.29-1.00-10.29
Dud of the Week: We have to rename the Dud of the Week award to the Uggla of the Week: 0-0-0-0-.111
Karma Kameleons DEF Snot on the Ball 5-4-1
Karma finally returned from his own personal All-Star Break $5 poorer but with a touch of revenge against the commish as Karma took Snot down for the 2nd time this year. After going 8 straight weeks without a loss, which brought Snot from 2010 mode into the playoffs, they’ve lost 2 weeks in a row and opened the door to some serious contention from the Boyz and KK. Karma has been hit pretty hard by the injury bug, but they still managed to make all their hits count this week, as they hit 8 bombs, but only batted .199. Has the Ricky Nolasco mini-magic evaporated? He’s been less-than-stellar in his past 2 starts after threatening to become this years waiver wire miracle. Maybe he should rub some jalapeno up his nose… Week 16, Boyz vs Snot for control of #6…
Stud of the Week: Karma really missed this guy when he was hurt: Raul Ibanez 3-2-5-0-.500
Dud of the Week: Hill and Span stunk too, but hype-machine Matt Wieters has been pretty darn bad: 0-0-0-0-.000
Brain Freeze DEF Legends 5-4-1
Interesting fact, Legends gave up 1 earned run this week (stupid Dan Haren… cut him!) and posted a microscopic era of 0.39. His WHIP was also 0.65. Both of these would have been record lows… but as we already confirmed, short week records don’t count. Regardless, those are cool numbers. Brain Freeze was still able to take 4 offensive categories to win the week and give Legends their first loss in 5 weeks. Despite Legends mini-run, they still sit in 9th place overall. Reason # 4,258 why Bounty Hunters should be trying to get as many 2010 picks as he can now… because if Legends decides to become a seller, it will be like choosing to eat at The Capitol Grille or Arbees. Legends has so many trade chips it’s not funny. Power and speed at quality positions, closers and aces would all of sudden become available and would probably fetch a serious return for Legends. BH should be taking advantage of Legends desire to salvage 2009 NOW… but he won’t. Oh well.
Stud of the Week: Lackey and Halladay were both very good, but Brian McCann takes it for nice contributions in 4 categories: 5-1-4-0-.375
Dud of the Week: Wow… Jason Bay has really stinked lately: 1-0-0-0-.091.
Player of the Week: Yunel Escobar… only in a short week…
Pitcher of the Week: J.P. Howell recorded 3 saves in 4 days with solid %’s. Yes please.
Manager of the Week… REGULATORS … here we come baby…

Week 14 Review 2009
Brain Freeze DEF Jobu’s Hats for Bats 8-2
And just like that, Jobu has lost 3 weeks in a row, sits in 6th place currently and is only 2.5 games up on Bobz Boyz. Maybe it’s bad to win week one 10-0? Brain Freeze only batted .244 for the week, but all of their hits were home runs (19). That pesky Magglio Ordonez is still sitting on that roster though… bizarre… Jobu meanwhile may have some serious pitching deficiencies. RJ, Joba and Harang have been serverly mediocre, if not worse, and Kazmir’s been terrible. Carpenter and Kershaw have been elite, but can they maintain it, and will it be enough? It’s also clear that when Thor is mortal, Jobu’s offense is not intimidating at all. For some reason this team fascinates Blog, both in the way it was constructed through the draft and the deals made since. Blog doesn’t take joy in ‘I told you so’s’ (he he, that’s such a lie), but Blog can point to ½ a dozen moves/picks at least in the past 6 months that Blog would not have done, and Blog can’t wait to show Jobu that was why he didn’t make the playoffs this year.
Stud of the Week: Brain Freeze didn’t win average, but he won everything else with a lot of help from Jayson Werth: 6-4-11-1-.292
Dud of the Week: I guess Aubrey Huff was pretty bad: 2-0-1-0-.105
Regulators TIED Legends 5-5
Regs can’t speak for Legends, but this tie was just so disappointing. Both teams had stats that they could have/should have taken but could not. Regs jumped out to huge lead early as he hit 6 home runs by Tuesday night, 3 alone from Paul Konerko. Of Course, Regs hit 3 home runs total over the next 5 days. How infuriating. Regs also stole 14 bases this week. Only 5 other times this season has a team stolen at least 14 bases (Regs has 3 of them). Of course, one of those other times was this week, as Legends stole 17, led by 5 from an all-of-a-sudden relevant Jimmy Rollins, and 5 from Jason ‘Crazy Legs’ Bay. Don’t get me started. Legends was also very close to taking WHIP and K/9, which possibly could have driven Regs to give up fantasy forever. Regs is sticking by his claims of bad luck though… Had Regs played Jobu in week 14, Jobu would have been skunked. Legends would have won 8-2. Figure that one out… Legends has now gone 4 weeks without losing. Of course, they haven’t won more than 5 games in any of those weeks. In fact, Legends has won more than 5 in a week once… in week one.. a 6-3-1 victory over… Bounty Hunters.
Stud of the Week: There were several studs this week, but for Jimmy Rollins, Mr. Invisible in the 1st half, to secure steals the way he did is noteworthy: 8-0-2-5-.370
Dud of the Week: Tough call, but we’ll go with Mike MacDougal. Is the rare possibility of a save worth these numbers? 0-0-20.25-5.25-0.00. Legends won saves without getting one from this scrub, but he may have cost Legends WHIP.
Swine Nine DEF Snot on the Ball 6-4
Snot will live with this score after being threatened by a skunking early on in the week. Rafael Soriano had as many saves (4) this week as Joe Nathan, Francisco Cordero, Dan Meyer and Fernando Rodney combined. That is super news for Brain Freeze who apparently has just swapped the Braves closer with Snot without changing players. Bizarre. Swine still sits firmly entrenched in first place overall, but over the past 4 weeks, they’ve been a very pedestrian 19-20-1. Every team has slumps, and they have managed to stay the course despite their decrease across the board in production, so they can be positive about that… Still… there seem to be some cracks in Swine’s armor that perhaps some feisty team can take advantage of in the upcoming short week. he he he…
Stud of the Week: Had Snot won, it would have been Chase Utley, but for this week, it should go to the other 2B: Brandon Phillips: 5-3-7-1-.280
Dud of the Week: Several star duds in this matchup: Morneau, Wieters and Braun really stunk for Snot, but Swine’s going to need Adrian Gonzalez to do a little better than this down the stretch: 1-0-1-0-.111
Ryan Howitzers DEF Bounty Hunters 6-4
Well, it’s going to be 50% harder for Blog to rip Bounty Hunters this week, as they put their best offensive week of the season: 51-9-52-8-.299. The two ‘50’s’ in runs and rbi mark the first time that BH reached the 50 mark in either category this year. Yet, in a hilarious twist of cruel, FBL fate, BH lost all 5 offensive categories to possibly the best all around offensive week we’ve seen this year from Ryan Howitzers: 57-13-58-9-.354. the .354 average was .001 off of the record set by Brain Freeze in week 8. If RH would have been able to get anything close to something resembling good pitching, they would have crushed anyone this week, but they instead, their pitching was terrible. 5 pitchers with era’s over 7 and 4 pitchers with WHIP’s over 2 will not get it done any week. RH is a legit playoff contender, but as Blog has pointed out before, when Gallardo and Hamels are off, so are their chances of winning. All BH had to do was beat RH’s 1.43 WHIP to secure only their 2nd non-losing week of 2009… but they posted a 1.75 whip, which, of course, is not better. Once Again, time to plan for 2010…
Stud of the Week: RH’s lineup was remarkably balanced, with props going to Mr. Howard, Zobrist and the Flyin Hawaiian, but BH got a great week from Michael Bourn: 10-1-6-5-.286. Too bad it didn’t deliver one category victory…
Dud of the Week: Since we can’t put “Both Rotations” here, we’ll pick Carlos Villanueva, who probably cost BH a tie: 0-0-54.00-7.50-6.75. Blog would also like to point out that Blog advised BH to cut this waste waaaay back in week 11’s review. The lesson? Blog is wise… Heed his advice… Reject it at your own peril.
Bobz Boyz DEF Karma Kameleons in absentia: 5-4-1
The #7 Boyz earned a smidgen of separation from the #8 Kameleons by winning their 4th week in their last 6 (4-1-1). Ryan Ludwick had a solid month this week, as he’ll probably take player of the week honors, but Blog will get to that in a bit. First: a moment of silence for Jay Bruce’s wrist. That was just yucky. … ok… Thankfully, Karma has been found and has returned to his team just in time to start trading chips like Cabrera, Kubel, Hill, Damon and closers for picks. What a disappointment Brandon Webb has been this year. If he can possibly come back down the stretch, maybe Karma can get something for him too? Unlikely though. Meanwhile the Boyz have bid adieu to Scott ‘Widowmaker’ Baker, because, let’s face it, when you can add Brian Moehler to your roster, who isn’t expendable?
Stud of the Week: Ryan Ludwick could become Thor’s best friend down the stretch: 5-3-12-0-.478
Dud of the Week: Johnny Damon has, as the kids say, ‘cooled’: 1-0-1-0-.125
Player of the Week: Ludwick
Pitcher of the Week: Verlander (lucky for Karma).
Manager of the Week: Big win for Brain Freeze.
Blog is soooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to the week 15 review….

Week 13 Review 2009
Snot on the Ball DEF Ryan Howitzers 9-1
This matchup will be known in CPL lore as ‘The Luck Bowl’. The 2 luckiest franchises in 2009 pitted their luck against each other… and one got throttled. If Snot had some extra closers (Blog bets that he has at least 4 full timers by the time the playoffs start), this would have been a skunk. None of the categories were really close. Snot jumped out to a 9-1 lead on Monday and pretty much cruised through the weekend. Though the wins/saves weren’t there, Snot had a pitching week for the ages. Snot posted an ERA of 1.62, and set the league record for WHIP with a silly low 0.70 number. That’s pretty insane.
(I wrote the above paragraph on 7/7. It is now 7/14, so the rest of the review will be far less relevant or interesting… enjoy!)
Stud of the Week: I don’t see any way around giving Co-Stud’s this week. I think the #’s will back me up:
Justin Morneau: 4-4-8-0-.480
Tim Lincecum: 2-0-0.00-0.44-9.56
Morneau may have competition for player of the week, but Lincecum’s sewn up pitcher of the week right there…
Dud of the Week: Cole Hamels was pretty stinky this week, but Ryan Howard smelled a lot worse: 0-0-1-0-.190
Bobz Boyz DEF Brain Freeze 7-3
The Boyz continued their late season push towards the playoffs by winning their 3rd match of the last 5 (3-1-1) and by seriously handling the CAN division leading Freezers. The Boyz did catch BF on a bad week, as they posted a record low average of .198. Up to this week, BF was 2nd in total runs and 1st in RBI, but they only managed 38 and 32 respectively. The Boyz were pretty solid across the board though (except saves… the only way the Boyz can win saves is if their opponents sits all their pitchers for some reason). One question for Brain Freeze… does Magglio Ordonez still warrant a roster spot at this point? It is pretty impressive that BF has cut his 1st round pick and received 0 production from a keeper, yet still they sit in first… for now.
Stud of the Week: Shin Soo Choo may have taken this on most weeks, but Jacoby Ellsbury won the Boyz SB (9-6): 6-2-4-4-.375
Dud of the Week: Justin Upton was terrible, but Evan Longoria was a much larger disappointment: 0-0-1-0-.056.
Legends DEF Jobu’s Hats for Bats 5-4-1
Both teams this week had 9 saves. Now that’s interesting... honest. Legends finally wins 2 weeks in a row, and Jobu has now dropped 2 in a row for the first time. Have we mentioned how terrible that Reyes+ for Braun+ trade has been for Jobu? Just wanted to remind people. Even though Jobu paid way too much for Lind (Snot has pretty much admitted he’d have given Lind away for peanuts), Lind has been huge for Jobu, so that one stings a lot less now. Legends hasn’t made a trade in 16 months, which just does not sound fun. As far as this matchup: David Price cost Jobu ERA, and Willy Taveras still stinks. Now THAT is some stellar analysis. Legends really should have lost this week, but here were his Sunday Pitching numbers: 9.1IP 1W 3SV .96 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 9.64 K/9. Without those #’s, Legends loses saves, ERA and K/9 and ties wins. Very nice.
Stud of the Week: Thor was very Thorish this week, helping Jobu take 4 offensive categories, but Legends won with pitching, thanks a lot to Dan ‘First Half’ Haren: 2-0-1.38-0.92-10.38.
Dud of the Week: Call Blog cynical, but shouldn’t a leadoff hitter get 3 runs a week? If Willy Taveras did, Legends wins 5-3-2: 0-0-0-0-.167
Swine Nine DEF Bounty Hunters 6-4
That makes BH 1-12 so far this year. Repeat after Blog: 2010… 2010… 2010… 2010… 2010… It’s ok to admit defeat, but it’s unforgivable to not put yourself in the best position to win, whether that’s for this year or next year. Get dealing BH! Declare the fire sale on! Wakefield, Zambrano, Marquis, Dempster, Volquez, Peavy… cut or trade them all on the cheap and devote your roster to speed and youth! Then trade that if you can! If you make the playoffs in 2009, I’ll change my team name in 2010 to whatever you want. It’s not going to happen. How is this fun for you? Give yourself some hope for next year! Sigh… Swiney won again. They are 10-2-1 so far and have really been fortunate some weeks (like this one… offensively they went 32-5-41-5-.264… and still won the week!!). What a waiver find AJ Burnett has been.
Stud of the Week: 3 Pitching Studs in one week! Roy Oswalt: 2-0-1.06-0.47-7.41
Dud of the Week: Carlos Pena was lousy: 0-0-0-0-.095
Regulators DEF Karma Kameleons 6-4
Regs took all 5 pitching categories for the 2nd time this season, and for the 2nd time, only won that week 6-4. Swine has won all 3 pitching categories 3 times… and in those 3 weeks he lost all of 4 offensive categories… total. Weird how their overall records are so far apart. Regs was fortunate that KK took this week off. Victory was directly related to 2 roster moves this week: KK keeping John Danks on his bench, and Regs adding Nick Blackburn. If those 2 things don’t happen, KK takes Wins and WHIP and Regs is really, really peeved. Has anyone seen Mark Teixeira’s power anywhere? Anyone?
Stud of the Week: Carl Crawford was solid across the board, but let’s give this one to Vlad the Impaled. It may be his last: 7-2-7-0-.345
Dud of the Week: Didn’t you used to be Alfonso Soriano? 0-0-0-0-.100
Player of the Week: Jacoby Ellsbury
Pitcher of the Week: Tiny Tim
Manager of the Week: Snot on the Lucky Charms.

Week 12 Review 2009
It’s uncanny at this point. I know Blog’s been kind of harping on the luck of the Howitzers, but how else are these wins explained?? RH won average batting .269. He won ERA with a 4.22. He won WHIP with a 1.55! Those numbers simply are not normally winning numbers. There’s certainly some jealousy here. Regs put up an ERA of 2.75 and a WHIP of 1.28… and lost both. Bad wins happen all the time in fantasy, just like in poker. In both games there is only so much you can control, the rest is up to… chance? luck? voodoo? Whatever it is, Ryan Howitzers has it in spades. Just look at Kevin Millwood’s season for confirmation. This win puts RH % points ahead of Brain Freeze for first place in the CAN division. Brain Freeze went 0-4 with spot starters this week watching Mazzaro, Braden, Cahill and Pineiro all shockingly stink out the joint; hence the bad ERA and WHIP wins for RH. BF also saw 3 of his 4 closers post ERA’s over 13. For those scoring at home, that’s not good. Remember when Evan Longoria was the next Mike Schmidt? Well, here are his numbers for the last month: 7-3-8-0-.221. Not quite elite material. He’s still ranked 30th for the season, but only 769th for the month, and 1215th for the week. News Flash: BF is really going to need April Evan to come back if they’re going to try to make noise in the 2nd half.
Stud of the Week: Not a whole lot of offensive studliness here… do we give this to a closer (Mo) or a one start starter (Yo)? We’ll go with Gallardo: 1-0-1.17-0.91-10.57
Dud of the Week: There were so many bad pitchers here… Robby Cano was awful, but his 1 SB was very useful to BF… We’ll go with Russell Martin for seasonal disappointment: 2-0-0-0-.238
Karma Kameleons DEF Jobu’s Hats for Bats 9-1
Here are two numbers for Jobu to chew on. 4-16. Jobu has played KK twice since skunking them in week one, and Jobu’s record since against KK has been 4-16. That means, despite losing the first meeting 0-10, KK wins the season series against Jobu 16-14. That’s kind of remarkable. This comes one week after Jobu throttled the mighty Swine 8-2. Jobu is clearly allergic to momentum. In week 12 Thor was only slightly above human, instead of immortal… and look at what happens. Karma has found pitching gold from Zach Duke and John Danks. That’s just nuts.
Stud of the Week: As Jobu clearly recognized, Aaron Hill went off: 7-4-8-1-.346.
Dud of the Week: I know you can’t expect awesomeness from the catcher position every week, but if Jobu gets one run from his C, it changes the score: Yadier Molina: 0-0-1-0-.200
Snot on the Ball DEF Regulators 6-4
As Snot has pointed out, this makes 7 lossless weeks in a row for the team that was supposedly punting 2009. They have mailed miserably in that regard, so… na na na na na. This win puts Snot ½ a game out of the #5 seed, and if the week 13 scores hold up, Snot will have it... taking it away from Regulators… who are the most mediocre, vanilla, boring team ever. Snot is the same team that has moved Cruz, J-Up, Ethier, Street, Holliday and Lind for, essentially, picks. Yet they still have lost only 9 offensive categories since week 4. Catch that: Out of 45 offensive contents since week 4, Snot is 32-9-4. By comparison, Swine is 37-8 in the pitching categories during that same time period. The big difference is, of course… Swine has been trying to win this year. Snot can attribute their 09 success to 2 things: 5 uber-stud, top 10 players, and the impatience of other teams. Morneau, Wright, Utley, Braun and Lincecum are awesome. Put them on Bounty Hunters roster and even they would be .500. But Snot has been able to snatch up the roster fodder of teams like Regs and Jobu and turn them into functioning fantasy options. Jose Lopez… JJ Hardy… Ricky Nolasco…CJ Wilson… Juan Rivera… for some reason these guys suffer through career long slumps on other rosters, but perform like HOF’ers on Snot’s roster… oh… and he has 5 #1’s next year… Huzzah…
Stud of the Week: Snot won SB by 1 and HR by 1… Ladies and Gentlemen… Adam LaRoche’s week 12 line: 6-2-5-1-.458. I give up.
Dud of the Week: There really wasn’t blatant suckiness on either roster… we’ll give this to Wandy Rodriguez, who didn’t exactly help Regs compete in the pitching %’s: 0-0-6.00-1.83-4.50
Swine Nine DEF Bobz Boyz 5-4-1
A fairly competitive matchup here between #1 and #7. Blog has already documented Swiney’s recent ‘issues’, but they’re still putting up above average numbers across the board. The Boyz continue to be much more competitive since the first third of the season, but they’re going to need to get a couple of blow outs if they’re going to sneak into the playoffs… or of course they could just wait for the Regs to completely implode. AJ Burnett, remarkably, was most likely responsible for this score not being reversed. Swine won K/9 with a 9.18, beating BB’z 9.16. Burnett’s pitching line was 1-0-0.00-0.57-12.86. Good enough to edge Yovani for pitcher of the week, but not good enough to beat out…
Stud of the Week: Hanley Ramirez: 5-3-15-2-.385. Swiney still lost RBI, HR and average… which should have Swiney concerned.
Dud of the Week: Rafael Furcal, quite possibly, could stink: 2-0-0-0-.200
Legends DEF Bounty Hunters 5-3-2
The battle for VA Supremacy was riveting and amazing… or boring and uninteresting… yeah, let’s go with that one. These 2 teams are pretty much battling for last place in the CPL, and with KK’s ownership of Jobu, 8th place may be slipping away as well (FYI, the trade deadline is 8/16/09). Legends does get Manny back this week, but unless Manny can get Jimmy Rollins on female fertility drugs soon, there might not be much hope for the Legends SS to be productive in 2009. If Rollins were cut right now, would teams use a waiver position to grab him? Probably… but it’s not nearly as automatic as it would have been a month ago. As for Bounty Hunters, another week, another L. Blog has been there/done that. Best of luck down the stretch.
Stud of the Week: A-Rod helped Legends tie HR and win RBI by 3. If A-Rod can maintain his momentum from this week and Manny can come back as Manny, Legends may win more offensive categories than they lose the rest of the way: 5-2-9-0-.368
Dud of the Week: Wow. Just wow. Jimmy Rollins: 1-0-0-0-.000.
Manager of the Week: Kongrats Karma. You have proved it’s not so bad to drink Jobu’s Rum.
Player of the Week: Hanley Ramirez
Pitcher of the Week: AJ Burnett

Week 11 Review 2009
Blog needed some time over the past month. Blog does not apologize. Blog doesn’t ask you to understand. Blog asks you to deal with it and read on.
Jobu’s Hats for Bats DEF Swine Nine 8-2. oof….
Been there done that. Thor is without a doubt the most devastating fantasy player since Big Head Bonds circa 2001. Jobu defeated Swine in Runs (49-48) HR (13-12) RBI (41-33) and average (.290-.280) as a direct result of Thor’s production. Thor himself changed the score to an 8-2 Jobu win from a 4-6 Jobu defeat. The most exciting aspect of Thor’s awesomeness? The idea that Thor’s awesomeness could possibly maybe be heading towards a new stadium (um… Fenway anyone??) This is only Swiney’s 2nd loss of the season, and their worst loss. It doesn’t appear that the wheels are falling off completely, but there are certainly some chinks in the armor. Bedard’s hurt… again… Harden & Oswalt stink, Burnett is 50/50, Kevin Slowey should remember that he’s Kevin Slowey around July 17th, and even the 2 aces: Bills and Johan, have proved human lately. Granted that Johan can become super-human in a 2nd half, but the point is he may have to if Swine’s going to take 3 out of 5 pitching categories down the stretch. For Jobu, Beltran’s knee could join Reyes calf, Webb’s shoulder, Hamilton’s oblique and Votto’s nerves as a key FBL injury. Here’s hoping…
Stud of the Week: Again: Thor 6-4-11-0-.389
Dud of the Week: Rich Harden cost Swine Nine ERA: 0-0-12.60-2.00-3.60
Regulators DEF Ryan Howitzers 6-4
Over the past 2 weeks, Regs (the #3 team in the CAN division) has defeated the top 2 teams in the CAN division by 6-4 scores, thanks mostly to pitching and speed. Regs was very happy to see Ian Kinsler come back to life, and would also like, one day, to see Alfonso Soriano come back to life too. After winning the first 4 weeks, RH has won only 2 weeks since, and both those wins were against the 8th and 9th ranked clubs. Fortunately, they still sit in 2nd place in the division, 2 back of Brain Freeze (?) and 6 up on the Regs. Fortunately though for RH, they can rely on LaTroy Hawkins and lines like this: 0-0-6.00-2.00-6.00 to bring them out of their funk.
Stud of the Week: Kinsler and Miggy were both very good, but I think that for sheer shock, this should go to BJ Upton: 6-2-9-2-.429
Dud of the Week: Hank Blalock used to be a really good hitter… now… um… well, let’s just say that Blog would be less than shocked if his name was on the infamous 2003 ‘list’: 0-0-0-0-.167
Snot on the Ball TIED Legends 5-5
Well, the 2nd of 3 rematches of the 2008 championship really didn’t settle anything between these 2 non-playoff teams. Legends has had some TERRIBLE luck this year in the keeper department. Beckett and Haren have been solid, if not very good, but Manny’s been on vacation, and A-Rod and Rollins have been awful. Take away the awesome May Bay, and replace it with the average June Bay, and you get some really mediocre offensive numbers for the Psuedo-Legends. Perhaps Legends should make a deal with Snot, who will gladly sell Luke Scott and Denard Span to Legends for the small price of his soul and a 2nd round pick. Where would Snot be if they still had Nelson Cruz, Justin Upton and Andre Ethier? Hmmm…
Stud of the Week: That Ryan Braun trade looks worse by the week for Jobu: 10-2-8-2-.385
Dud of the Week: he he he! This is worth $300MM? he he he! Ladies and Gentlemen… A-Rod! 0-0-2-0-.071
Brain Freeze DEF Karma Kameleons 5-3-2
In all reality, this should have been worse for KK. Blog does not understand how KK feels that keeping Carl Pavano on his roster is more beneficial to him than cutting him for a replacement OF, since Raul Ibanez went on the DL (thus giving KK 3 DL players and no offensive players on his bench). Carl Pavano is the 1,255th ranked player in fantasy this year. According to Yahoo, someone like Ben Sheets, who hasn’t pitched all year (right RH?) would be more valuable to KK than Pavano by not producing stats as crummy as Pavano’s. Now, Yahoo rankings aren’t the be-all end-all of roster moves, but, this is still Carl Pavano we’re talking about here. It also looks like Ryan Zimmerman’s new nickname is going to be ‘Sell High’. Sell High is ranked 870 for the past month. This after a top 10 first 6 weeks of the season. Ouch. Brain Freeze takes over first in the CAN division by putting up pretty average numbers. Congrats.
Stud of the Week: Not a lot of excellence here. Prince and Huff were both very good, but for across the board contributions, we’ll go with Troy Tulowitzki: 4-1-2-2-.438
Dud of the Week: Mikey Lowell was even worse than Sell High: 1-0-0-0-.077
Bobz Boyz DEF Bounty Hunters 6-4
After only winning one week out of the first 8, the Boyz haven’t lost since, posting 2 wins and a tie and emerging as a legitimate playoff contender down the stretch. They currently sit 7th overall, 3.5 games behind Snot. If the Boyz really wanted to make the tournament, maybe they could offer Snot a few picks to make some ‘roster errors’ like forgetting to put David Wright and Chase Utley in the lineup and trading for Carl Pavano. Bounty Hunters… Blog wouldn’t be so harsh in it’s criticism (who am I kidding… of course I would) if you would at least do something. How is Coco Crisp still on that roster when there are so many other injured players there? Why is Carlos Villanova (sic) still there? Why bother having closers?? Could you send 2 of those closers to the Boyz for a young potential keeper (Bruce? Hart? Quentin) and/or picks? Could you trade Michael Bourn NOW while he is producing at his career peak? Could you get picks for Soto, Beltre, Young, Dye, Thome, Theriot, Hudson, Zambrano, even Ichiro and Aramis? Should you at least try? This club needs direction, and Blog is here to give it to you. Propose a minimum of 10 deals a day. Make moves that benefit you next year, before Legends and KK beat you to all the picks! Based on my scientific calculations, you’ll need to finish the season 1,423-0-0 to make the playoffs. Before Peavy went down… maybe, but not now. Time to rebuild.
Stud of the Week: We have a Derrek Lee sighting! 5-4-9-0-.364. of course, this outburst cost the Boyz ERA because most of the damage was off of…
Dud of the Week: Kerry Wood! 0-0-11.57-2.14-3.86. with honorable mention to Jermaine Dye and Luis Castillo.
Player of the Week: The sun rises, the sun sets, and Thor is the player of the week.
Pitcher of the Week: Zack Gr… oh wait… um… actually… this one goes to King Felix. Kevin Correia was actually ranked higher, but, come on…
Manager of the Week: Jobu throttled the front-runner. Bravo.

2009 Week 7 Review
Week 8's will be up in 48 hours...
Ryan Howitzers TIED Jobu’s Hats for Bats (or vice versa) 5-5
Absolutely nothing was determined between the #3 and #4 seeds in week 7, as mediocrity dominated both the stats and the score. Howitzers had a very solid Sunday as they got 6 SB’s on the day to overtake the category 10-6. As Jobu pointed out, even Howitzers name sake swiped a bag that day, which temporarily quells the rumors that all Howard can do is hit 2 solo home runs a week. Jobu hasn’t won WHIP since week one, and has also lost ERA 4 weeks running. At least he’ll have Clayton Kershaw to right the ship now…
Stud of the Week: It only took 7 weeks, but Dan Uggla actually performed like a keeper level player: 5-4-9-1-.280
Dud of the Week: A 3rd round pick for this? Adam Lind: 1-0-0-0-.111
Legends TIED Needs a New Team Name (or vice versa) 5-5
Legends should be thankful for the power, speed, and closers that he has, because without the solid numbers he got in HR, SB and saves, this could easily have been a blowout. Usually 15 homers and 10 steals are good enough to win those 2, but Legends posted 18 and 12 to take them. Legends also hasn’t lost saves yet this year. That feat is equaled only by Swine Nine’s HR, W, and ERA so far this year. Papi had a pretty devastating injury this week, as they lost Jason Bartlett right after he was the runner up stud: 8-2-13-3-.385
Stud of the Week: It would take a special week to beat those numbers from NANTN’s undrafted SS, but Mark Reynolds delivered: 6-4-9-6-.357
Dud of the Week: Several options here, but we’ll give this to Aubrey Huff: 0-0-3-0-.174… Go get him Sox!
Swine Nine DEF Regulators 7-2-1
This was just disgusting. The score easily could have been (should have been) 8-1-1 but for some scrappy numbers from Regs on Sunday. Swine’s scores weren’t dominant, but they were solid across the board again as they continue to roll through the league. Regs still hasn’t won average this year, and posted his 2nd average in the .230’s this season. Swine has 95 homers through 7 weeks, which is 11 more than 2nd place (Legends and Jobu). Swine only had 2 pitchers with era’s over 4. That’s pretty good.
Stud of the Week: It could easily have been Mark Teixeira, but Joe Mauer has been just ridiculous: 12-4-13-0-.458. Those are Scotty Michaels numbers… not reality.
Dud of the Week: Alfonso Soriano debacled his week: 0-0-0-0-.095
Snot on the Ball DEF Bobz Boyz 6-3-1
This was a pretty weak display by both clubs to be honest. The only above average number posted by either side was Snot’s .301 average, and maybe his 49 RBI will win half the time. Otherwise, Regulators, who lost to Swine 7-2-1, would have beaten each of these teams at least 7-3 this week. Ce La Vi or however the stupid French spell their stupid sayings. Anyway, the Boyz are almost running out of time to get their team up to speed and healthy, while Snot is just raking in the draft picks and continuing his streak as the luckiest fantasy player ever. Edwin Jackson? Seriously??
Stud of the Week: Morneau was solid, but this has to go to Miggy Tejada (even though BB didn’t win an offensive category): 5-3-4-1-.522
Dud of the Week: Chris Davis really needs to learn how to hit a single now and then: 0-0-0-0-.053
Karma Kameleons DEF Bounty Hunters 7-3
This matchup could have even been worse. Bounty Hunters officially put up, in week 7, 2009, the worst offensive week in CPL history: 29-5-16-3-.223. 16 RBI??? The Runs, RBI and average are record lows, and the homeruns tie the 2009 record low. BH won wins by 1 and WHIP by .01. KK won average by 102 points! Their .325 is the new mark for 2009. The Hunters are a team in disarray who need some serious offensive firepower if their to contend in the 2nd half… of 2010.
Stud of the Week: Torii Hunter has been a legit fantasy stud in 2009: 3-1-10-3-.333
Dud of the Week: Specifically, Ryan Theriot: 0-0-0-0-.083. Collectively, Bounty Hunters: 29-5-16-3-.223. 10 guys off waivers would have at least won 3-2 against those offensive numbers.
Player of the Week: Joe Mauer
Pitcher of the Week: Blog hearts Justin Verlander
Manager of the Week: Swine Nine. Also, so far, manager of 2009.

Week 6 1/2 Draft Review (Part 2)
Round One
Best Pick - only 3 real competitors here, but it has to go to Jason Bay (6th by Legends). The 4th
ranked player really likes playing in Fenway.
Worst Pick - This goes to Vlad 7th overall Guerrero. He's ranked 963 and is hurt…. Shockingly… Would Karma trade Vlad for Adam Jones, the 150th overall pick? I hope so…
Round 1 Winner: Despite Swine Nine, Karma and Bobz Boyz each having 2 picks here, it has to go to Legends for grabbing Bay.
Round 1 Loser: Since Karma at least got Morneau #1, this has to go to PSC for taking Ortiz #9, and then cutting him 5 weeks later. Jacoby Ellsbury, ranked 77th, went with the very next pick.
Round Two
Best Pick: Ew. This was really a pretty lousy round. The best pick here was Curtis Granderson at 13 (ranked 44).
Worst Pick: There are 4 players taken in the round ranked higher than 650, and only one of them is guaranteed to finish higher than that (McCann). The worst so far though, and one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of 2009, is Francisco Liriano, who is currently ranked 1201 and getting hammered.
Round 2 Winner: I guess it's the Howitzers with Granderson, who probably should have been shopped after his great start.
Round 2 Loser: Though taking Geovany Soto (ranked 901) in this round was a stretch even based on his 2008 production, watching him stink really has to irk Bounty Hunters… but they are not the losers of this round. Bobz Boyz took Chris Davis (ranked 199 but hitting .200) 14th and Francisco Liriano 19th, and he regrets them both. How different would this league be if the Boyz had taken Billingsley and left Liriano to the Swine?
Round Three
Best Pick: Jonathan Broxton was taken 30th and is ranked 6th overall, mostly because he's lucked into 5 wins, which is a lot for a closer over the entire year. The real gem of this round has been Billingsley (ranked 32). He has teamed with Johan to give Swine two uber-aces and has run laps around all other starting pitchers taken in the first 7 rounds. Not until round 8 with Gallardo and Greinke did we see an SP who's actually throwing like an ace.
Worst Pick: John Lackey (574) was put on the DL right around the draft, which gave Legends the privilege of, for the 2nd year in a row, drafting an injured Angels SP. Tulowitzki has been the worst performer in this round, but I'm betting Legends would much rather have Broxton right now.
Round 3 Winner: Jobu and Broxton may disagree, but it goes to Swine for Billingsley.
Round 3 Loser: This goes to PSC for Tulowitzki (ranked 591). Lackey should be solid down the stretch. There's not nearly as much hope for Troy.
Round Four
Best Pick: Adam Dunn (ranked 48) is still hitting bombs, only this year he's actually helping the batting average for Legends. If Joey Votto can ever get his equilibrium back, he may end up the best pick in this round.
Worst Pick: It was the worst pick on draft day, and it may still be. Scotty Baker (948) has been hurt and hittable. Not what your looking for with the 39th pick.
Round 4 winner: Legends gets it done.
Round 4 Loser. The Boyz are saved by the Votto pick. The Regulators took 2 SS's in this round, and they're both TERRIBLE. (Drew 898, Hardy 277).
Round Five
Best Pick: Even though Victor Martinez (13) is ranked higher, the discovery by Joe Mauer (85) of Steroids has possibly given rise to the new Pujols. Anyone that can hit .350 with 30 bombs is elite. Do that from an elite position, and Swine is thrilled that this gamble paid off. Maybe we all should get kidney conditions.
Worst Pick: There were some serious underperforming SP's taken here, but the worst pick was probably Ervin Santana. Rumor has it that the warranty is about to run out on his arm, and his performances so far seem to validate that.
Round 5 Winner: Swine again. Everyone in round 4 wishes they took Mauer. Swine also added Hunter Pence (ranked 66) to boot.
Round 5 Loser: Howitzers for the Santana grab. The other crummy starters taken in this round could pull it together down the stretch. I don't think Santana makes it to the AS Break.
Round Six
Best Pick: Johnny Damon is a slugging machine and ranked 24th overall. Orlando Hudson is ranked 35th as well, but Damon is the best pick here for Karma.
Worst Pick: There are 3 crummy picks here, but I think the worst was Ryan Doumit (835) also by Karma. Since Karma had the best and worst picks in this round, they can't win or lose the round, so…
Round 6 Winner: If not Karma, it has to be Bounty Hunters for Orlando Hudson.
Round 6 Loser: Jobu took Joba (708), who hasn't exactly been lights out, but Swine took Roy Oswalt (827) AND Rich Harden (595). Those two could redeem themselves still, but for now, combined, they equal the losing round.
Round Seven
Best Pick: What a terrible round. Miguel Tejada is ranked 92. That makes him a no-brainer choice for best pick amongst this garbage.
Worst Pick: Ricky Nolasco (1224) has been surprisingly awful. Milton Bradley (809) hasn't surprised anyone except Bounty Hunters with his awfulness, so he's the worst. Edwin Encarnacion (1198) gets honorable mention.
Round 7 Winner: um… Howitzers at least got a pick back in a trade for Wieters (1040). I guess that's good. Also, Regulators and Snot on the Ball are runners up for trading out of this round long ago.
Round 7 Loser: Fantasy Baseball as a whole.
Round Eight
Best Pick: Arguably the best pick in the draft. Zack Greinke (1) went after a lot of really lousy starting pitchers.
Worst Pick: Randy Johnson (945) was taken ahead of not only Greinke, but also Gallardo (131), Hawpe (69) Wells (93), Theriot (121) and Pena (31). That was a brutal pick.
Round 8 Winner: Regs would be done without Greinke.
Round 8 Loser: Regs will never let Jobu forget that he should have had Greinke.
Round Nine
Best Pick: Raul Ibanez was taken 85th, and he's now ranked 2nd. That's called value.
Worst Pick: There were 3 poor picks in this round, but the most painful was probably Ryan Dempster (643) taken 83rd… right before Ryan Zimmerman (12) and Ibanez. Ouch.
Round 9 Winner: Snot on the Ball turned the Ibanez pick into his new binky, Justin Morneau. Not too shabby.
Round 9 Loser: See 'Worst Pick'. Sorry Bounty Hunters.
Round Ten
Best Pick: Josh Johnson is the 11th best SP so far. He was the 23rd pitcher drafted, never mind the 12 pitchers who were kept. Yeah Josh!
Worst Pick: Two of the worst, most disappointing young outfielders in FBL were taken back to back here. Chris B (the B stands for sucks) Young (865) and Lastings Milledge (1,034) have really disappointed. Young will win for worst pick, because at least Milledge was sent to the minors, where he can't hurt a lineup.
Round 10 Winner: Regs had the best and worst pick in this round, so I guess the round 10 winner will have to go to Jobu for taking the least bad closer who has stayed healthy: Chad Qualls (75). Francisco would be the pick here had he stayed off the DL.
Round 10 Loser: Gotta be Karma for the Milledge pick.

Week 6 1/2 Draft Review (Part 1)
here…
we…
go
Round Eleven:
Best Pick: Justin Verlander, taken 104th has regained his ace form, but Javier Vazquez, taken 107th is currently the 58th ranked player in the game. Hooray NL pitching!
Worst Pick: Alex Gordon is the worst ranked, but he’s been hurt. Cameron Maybin is the 2nd worst ranked, and he’s just stunk. He did at least get the undrafted Adam Lind back in a trade…. Wait, what? There was a draft pick involved? I didn’t know that…
Round 11 Winner: Regs pitching would still be effective without Vazquez. Karma had Webb go down and has really needed Verlander to get re-juiced, so KK wins round 11.
Round Twelve:
Best Pick: 5 players in this round are ranked in the top 100, but the cream of the crop looks like the busting out Justin Upton (taken 116 ranked 39). Even though JU was dropped early on, he is bashing and running lately. Heath Bell is ranked 25, but he’s a closer. Would Jobu trade Heath Bell for Justin Upton? Hopefully. Would PSC trade Upton for Bell?
Worst Pick: This kind of depends on if Wang was really hurt after getting every pitch he threw hammered early on. David Price hasn’t seen the bigs yet, but Bobz Boyz was in full ‘flyer’ mode at this point. I think that Jose Lopez was the worst pick here, because, well, he flat out stinks (ranked 670).
Round Twelve Winner: Snot wins this prize for the Upton pick, even though he cut him and no one else grabbed him before Snot brought him back and eventually turned Upton+ into his 34th first round pick.
Round Thirteen:
Best Pick: Mark Reynolds, picked 126th is ranked 29th. Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. Mark Reynolds would also have been the 127th pick… Regs is bitter.
Worst Pick: Kevin Kouzmanoff stunk last year. Stinking the year before should not lead to being taken 123rd overall the next. Guess what? Kevin Kouzmanoff stinks again this year: ranked 768th.
Round 13 Winner: Legends… the thief…
Round Fourteen:
Best Pick: There was some decent value in this round, but Johnny Cueto may be having his breakout year. He’s ranked 42 and another solid late pitching find for Karma.
Worst Pick: There are two duds here: Joel Hanrahan (ranked 783) and Carlos Gomez (ranked 813). Hanrahan is still technically the closer, so Gomez wins the worst.
Round 14 Winner: Cueto’s the best pick, but the Round 14 Winner is Bounty Hunters for taking Kosuke Fukodome (ranked 112). It broke a string of 4 terrible picks for BH and Fukodome has carried the BH offense so far this year.
Round Fifteen:
Best Pick: Hands Down Adam Jones. He’s ranked 11th and a future stud.
Worst Pick: Hands Down Gavin Floyd. He’s ranked 1,230th and he stinks.
Round 15 winner: Nice grab on Jones Jobu.
Round Sixteen:
Best Pick: This was a very bad round, but one pick has excelled so far in 2009… but not for the team that drafted him! Trevor Hoffman is ranked 34th, but it’s all been for Regs, not Swine. I know he’s a closer, but really, this was a lousy round.
Worst Pick: It’s now 5 out of 6 for Bounty Hunters. Jeremy Guthrie is ranked 934th and still on the BH roster for some reason. He has an ERA and a K/9 in the 5’s. One high, one low, both terrible.
Round 16 Winner: Swine Nine! Regs thanks you for taking (and cutting) Hoffman.
Round Seventeen:
Best Pick: Wandy Rodriguez is the 16th ranked player in fantasy after figuring out how to pitch on the road. Regs took him with the 167th pick. I think that’s pretty good…
Worst Pick: Fred Lewis is ranked 642nd and has not produced anything this year for Need a New Team Name or for the waiver wire.
Round 17 Winner: Did we mention that Wandy Rodriguez is ranked 16th overall? Regs for the win.
Round Eighteen:
Best Pick: It’s getting tougher. Felipe Lopez is the highest ranked player at 163. Mike Napoli is ranked 180, and the next ranking is 560 for John Smoltz, who hasn’t thrown a pitch yet. Gotta go with Felipe, I guess.
Worst Pick: Kenshin Kawakami is ranked 923rd, but he’s pitched much more like a pitcher ranked in the 700’s.
Round 18 winner: Jobu got a MI in the 18th round. I guess that’s good.
Round Nineteen:
Best Pick: Jered Weaver’s been very effective for being picked 239th. He’s ranked 46th and helping Halladay carry Need a New Team Name’s pitching. Shin-Soo Choo has been on a torid pace (ranked 63rd) ever since Regs cut him.
Worst Pick: Chris Ray was a terrible pick for Karma in 2008. Chris Ray was a terrible pick for Karma in 2009. Here’s hoping for the hat trick in 2010.
Round 19 Winner: Need a New Team Name is in love with his 239th pick so far.
Round Twenty:
Best Pick: This was a real terrible round. Hideki Okajima is the best pick with a ranking of 167. Does anyone care?
Worst Pick: Placido Polanco is ranked 683 and yet still sits on Bounty Hunters bench. See a pattern developing?
Round 20 Winner: The waiver wire, since this is where all these players belong.
Supplementals: They all stink, but Jack Cust stinks less than the rest.
The top 10 rounds will follow some day.

Week 6 Review...oh... wait...
Snot on the Ball DEF Ryan Howitzers 5-3-2
Stud of the Week: Justin Morneau took advantage of playing a bunch in the Wiffle Ball Stadium, but David Wright was the #2 overall ranked player in week 6: 5-0-9-5-.556.
Dud of the Week: Howie Kendrick was pretty stinky, but Jorge Cantu was stinkier: 1-0-1-0-.130.
Bounty Hunters DEF Jobu's Hats for Bats 7-3
What a fabulous ERA and whip Jobu... BH won ERA by over 6 runs! that's gotta be some kind of record. Take Blog's word for it.
Stud of the Week: BH's offense was pretty balanced, meaning no one stood out as stellar. Jake Peavy was very good (ranked 11th for the week), but it didnt' matter. Brian Roberts though was very, very good, so it goes to him, even though his team got throttled: 9-1-4-5-.318
Dud of the Week: So...many...options... Swisher, Braun, and every Jobu starter except Joba all sucked. The suckiest sucker was probably Scott Kazmir though: 0-0-18.90-4.20-5.40.
Regulators DEF Karma Kameleons 6-1-3
Stud of the Week: Again, this award goes to a player on the losing team. Without Raul Ibanez, Karma loses 8-0-2. 9-4-12-1-.481
Dud of the Week: Daniel Murphy and Endy Chavez were both terribly and have since been rightly axed, but the worstest was Chris Duncan: 0-0-0-0-.077, who somehow still has his job...
Legends DEF Bobz Boyz 5-3-2
Stud of the Week: Jimmy Rollins, welcome back: 8-1-4-3-.333
Dud of the Week: Not a lot of offensive dudness, but Andy Sonnanstine cost the Boyz ERA: 0-0-31.50-5.00-4.50
Swine Nine DEF Needs a New Team Name 6-3-1
Stud of the Week: 3 of the top 10 offensive players and the top pitcher from the week were in this matchup: Halladay was awesome, Hawpe was the highest rated, and Bartlett was swell too, but Adrian Gonzalez did it for the winners, hitting homers in 5 straight games. Of course, he hasn't had a hit since, but we'll save that for the week 7 review: 6-5-7-0-.292
Dud of the Week: Robinson Cano was not so awesome. 1-0-1-0-.143
Player of the Week: What do Pujols, Longoria, Bay and Kinsler have in common? They're all ranked behind Raul 'The Rascal' Ibanez: the top offensive player in the game right now, fantasy wise.
Pitcher of the Week: Like I said, Roy Halladay was awesome.
Manager of the Week: The only team that Regulators would not have beaten at least 8-2 this week was Karma Kameleons...stupid schedule.

Snogs! Week 6 Review...
Here you go. Week 6 in the California Penal League. You take it and like it!
SOTB humiliates RH 5-3-2
This is what Snog! has to say to all those who feel that Snot is somehow "Throwing" the season: "Then beat him already!". While those that lose to He-Who-Must-Make-A-Trade-Every-Week should be embarrassed by the ineptitude of their own teams, it is worth noting that SOTB has now won 50% of his weekly matchups. So stop whining.
Let's see. Snog! notices that SOTB won most of the offense and RH won some of the pitching. 2 victories!?! Neither team could get more than 2 victories!?! Way to build a staff there fellas. Rheal Cormier wasn't available?
Nice work by Justin Morneau, the most underrated player in fanasty baseball. David Wright seems to be making up for the lack of power by overcompensating on the basebaths. Juan Pierre... wow. Its must be sad to know that Juan Pierre contributed to beating your team. Miggy Cabrera had a decent weak as well.
Edwin Jackson (Snicker) and D-Lowe "carried" the pitching for both teams.
BH shocks JOBU 7-3
Wow. Snog! has little else to say but wow. Jobu has built a semi-juggernaut, what with his acquisition of adam lind and all, but he was not able to get past the number 10 seeded Greedos.
Damn man... Russell Branyon. Ryan Theriot. Jim Thome. Keep your head high Jobu. If you do everything you can to stop Kobe or Lebron and let the other guys beat ya, some times they're gonna do it... Snog! honestly didn't realize Branyan was still in the show. Adam Jones continues to make a case as the breakout player of the year (2-2-5-0-.571).
Jobu. Dude. a 10+ ERA? Raaaaannnnnnddddddyyyyy. Raaaaaannnnnndddddyyyy.
REGS does what he was suppose to do against KK 6-1-3
Heads up CPL. Regs is starting to wake up a little lately. Josh Hamilton, BJ Upton ('bout time), Nate McLouth and Ian "The best player in FLB" Kinsler all contributed to a rock solid offensive line for REGS (52-16-61-12-.302). In fairness, the fated lizards put a pretty potent line themselves (47-16-47-4-.310), but were unable to match up to one of the best fantasy pitching staffs the CPL has seen these many years.
Snog! thinks KK will begin selling pretty soon, and then will most likely start buying a little while after that, and then possibly try leasing a player or two buy the end of the summer. Ah, who is Snog! kidding here... trading is what makes FLB so much fun, and there ain't many guys more willing to trade you their best players than KK! You just keep doing what you're doing...
LEG juiced up BOYZ 5-3
In honor of the return of A-Roid, Snog! would like to offer a heart-felt and testy-shrinking congrats to LEG for his win over the BOYZ. The Like-A-Virgin-Loving 3B was able to "inject" life into the offense, knocking out a pair of dinky-dingers. Rodriguez should continue to "enhance" the LEG lineup for the forseeable future. Steroids.
Jimmy Rollins has finally decided to meet with A-Roid after work, and is starting to put up numbers fitting of a former MVP (8-1-4-3-.333). Brandon Inge continues to impress from the catchers slot, and 6-4-3 Drew was locked in (7-2-3-0-.350). John Lackey had a "INF" for his ERA, that always helps.
On the losing side, Lance Berkman, attempting to distinguish himself from David Ortiz, has finally starting posting some decent numbers, and recent pick-up Shin-Soo Gazuntight (is that a REALLY played out joke?) did his best to carry the offense (6-2-5-0-.438), but I guess his best wasn't good enough... you're singing now, aren't ya.
SWINE9 forecast a finals matchup with PAPI 6-3-1
Unless someone else figures stuff out in a hurry, this should be the matchup in the finals this season. S9 planned perfectly in 2008 and has been barreling through teams are a solid rate He's also done it all with little-to-no contribution from Grady Sizemore, Alex Rios orMatt Holliday. PAPI made the first BIG move of the season with his acquisition of Andre Ethier, Justin Upton and Nelson Cruz, and has positioned himself for a solid run atop the Can Division. If he would just pay the league deposit he may actually have a chance!
Adrian Gonzalez (5-6-7-0-.292) and Mauer Power (5-3-6-0-.348) led the charge for S9, with Kevin Slowey and Chad Billingsley doing their best Johan Santana impersenations. Johan pitched well himself.
On the other side of the diamond, Brad Hawpe (seriously) picked up his entire team, put them on his shoulders, and tried to carry them to victory (6-2-12-0-.476), while Doc Halladay continued to prove that he may be the best pitcher on the planet.
Both of these teams should continue to excite all season!
That's it for Snog! Please send all letters of complaint care of Blog!
Sing one for A-Roid!!! "When you call my name, its like a little prayer, I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there..."

Week 5 Review 2009
And just like that, there are no more undefeateds in the 2009 season. In 2008, there were 2 undefeated teams heading into week 8, when Snot defeated Bounty Hunters. Snot finally dropped a week to Legends in week 10. This year seems to be oozing mediocrity. Take out the flukey week one blowouts and we'd be looking at 9 teams within a few games of each other (sorry BH). I think that this season is shaping up to be a tooth and nail dog fight down the stretch just to make the playoffs. All of this should make Snot very happy as they try to milk everyone's top picks by offering the waiver pick ups we all wish we'd have grabbed. As for this matchup, the Boyz finally got a solid week across the board as Sabathia, Cain, and... wait for it... Scotty Baker all posted solid outings. BB also sat the #42 overall pick, Big Game James Shields against the Red Sox. Blog usually believes that if he's on your roster, you gotta play him, and blog was almost proven accurate as Shields crusied through 5, but in the 6th, he saw he ERA jump to 9, and the Boyz were vindicated. How often has THAT happened in the past 2 years?? If the Boyz can ever get production from Berkman and Sexei Alexei, watch out. As for the Howitzers, it's no secret that Blog's not been overly impressed by their fast start, but they still sit just 1.5 games out of the #1 spot and 10 games ahead of the Regs for third in the CAN division. The wheels haven't completely fallen off yet, but when you're relying on the trio of Millwood, Maine, Maholm to get you winning numbers... yeah... ouchy...
Stud of the Week: Not a lot of studliness here, just some very solid performances. We'll go with Miguel Tejada, who has changed dealers and is now productive again: 4/2/11/0/.367
Dud of the Week: The leading contestant for most disappointing keeper of 2009 is Dan Uggla. He's getting stiff competition from plenty of others (Berkman, Upton, Ordonez, Atkins, et al), but Danny's doing terrible. 1/0/1/0/.095
No Longer Papi (This needs to be fixed... asap) DEF Regulators 6-4
With the numbers Regs put up in week 5, they would have defeated every other team in the league besides the Kameleons (who are rolling). Alas, PSC/NLP probably should have gotten out of week 5 with at least an 8-2 score. There have been 3 60 RBI weeks so far, and the initials have 2 of them. Evan Longoria has emerged as the true threat to THOR's throne of FBL dominance. The dude with the pretty name is a beast who can mash. Too bad the same can't be said for David Ortiz. He stinks, and even though it happened in week 6, Ortiz takes the ribbon as the first 1st Rounder to get the ax in 2009 (50 points and a toaster oven to anyone who knows the first 1st rounder axed in 2008). Initials may have some bumps due to injury (Youk) and roster reshuffling coming up, and their pitching is still pretty suspect, but they're currently sitting pretty atop the league. The Regs are finally getting healthy with Hamilton due back soon, but they just can't seem to combine the pitching and hitting for a full week.
Stud of the Week: Hardy (no, seriously, look!) and Crawford both had excellent weeks, but come on... The Pretty One was awesome again: 7/4/14/1/.333
Dud of the Week: Remember when we were talking about disappointing keepers? Magglio Ordonez: 0/0/1/0/.000
Karma Kameleons DEF Snot on the Ball 6-3-1
The best team over the past 2 weeks, edging PSC/NLP by 1/2 a game, is the Kameleons, and there is one secret to their success: Johnny flippin Damon. Was EVERYBODY on that 04 Sox team juicing?? Can't we get Papi and Varitek back in touch with their 04 connections? Damon has become a slugger in the wiffle ball field they call Yankee Stadium. KK doesn't care where he hits the bombs, as long he keeps it up (Blog lays 4-1 that he, um, doesn't). KK has also been able to benefit greatly from the refound awesomeness of Justin Verlander. He's been striking out everybody. Not bad for the 104th pick. Let's see who went ahead of Verlander: Matt Capps (103), Alex Gordon (102), Pat Burrell (101), Kevin Slowey (100). I could keep going. That could end up being a good pick. It also looks like Ryan Zimmerman has found his groove as well... all this and KK is still on the outside of the playoffs looking in. Snot just want to trade anywhere from 3-6 quarters for your 1 dollar bill. How about that Todd Helton!!
Stud of the Week: Johnny Damon: 7/5/15/0/.419. ooph.
Dud of the Week: Kyle Lohse missed the KK happy train: 0/0/11.32/2.03/6.97
Jobu's Hats for Bats DEF Bounty Hunters 6-4
Make that 4 60 RBI weeks thanks to Jobu's 62. I'm too lazy to do the research, but I'm betting that the 36 RBI differential between's Jobu's 62 and Bounty Hunters 26 is probably the biggest ever. Not just in CPL history... in FBL history. THOR was mighty pedestrian this week, but luckily for Jobu, he had 2 OF's playing the 'try to top this game'. Carlos Beltran and Ryan Braun combined for 7 HR and 22 RBI. That meant that the Bounty Hunters entire team had only 4 more RBI than 2 of Jobu's OF. Toss in the 5 Jobu's 2B Brian Roberts gave him, and BH didn't have a chance. The BH offense is 'str-ug-gil-ling', and it's not going to clear up any time soon since they've lost Aramis Ramirez's arm after it fell out of the socket. There was pitching in this matchup, but the only notable thing was that BH posted a 10.07 K/9, which is more than 2 full strikeouts per 9 better than his previous 09 high. Does this mean that BH has good pitching? maybe. Does this mean that BH should try to move some of that pitching for hitting? 26 RBI...
Stud of the Week: Ryan Braun barely eeks out Beltran: 8/3/12/1/.458
Dud of the Week: There is a definite dud trend happening here... Garrett Atkins: 1/0/1/0/.056
Swine Nine DEF Legends 7-3
Swine has had a very nice beginning to the season. In week 5 they posted a 63 run total which is the current high for the season. They also slugged 16 HR which should win most weeks, and did win in week 5. Legends has not had as good a start to the season, though they did post 62 runs and 15 HR. See how fickle this game can be? Legends lost 7-3, but was 2R, 2HR and 2K's from winning 6-4, which is better than winning 7-3, unless you're Snot. I don't have much else here. Nice weeks for Bay, Dunn and Fuentes (4 saves) for Legends and a very nice week for Johan, but the best belonged to:
Stud of the Week: Hanley Ramirez. Finally. What a line: 11/4/7/3/.533. Welcome back.
Dud of the Week: Brandon Inge? You mean he wasn't going to keep up his Johnny Bench pace? 1/0/1/0/.143.
Player of the Week: It has to be Hanley. Man what a sweet line.
Pitcher of the Week: Zack Greinke. Keep in mind he lost a 4 hit CG: 1/0/0.53/0.59/7.94. He was ranked top pitcher by yahoo last week, though i do love him very much. I just want to comfort and nurture him and make sure he doesn't go wacko again.
Manager of the Week: Bobz Boyz gets their first win of the season giving RH their first loss of the season.

Week 4 Review 2009
Karma Kameleons DEF Jobu’s Hats for Bats 7-3
Now that’s how you get back some dignity, KK! After having their already flaming team name changed by Jobu to resemble mutated mammaries, KK exacted some revenge by handing Jobu their first loss of the season in week 4. This win brought Karma within 9 games of a .500 record… wait… that’s still lousy… scratch that last stat. After starting out as well as you possibly can, Jobu has been decidedly mediocre since, posting a 13-16-1 record between weeks 2-4. That’s called ‘missing an opportunity’. This loss was clearly the fault of THOR, who only went 5/2/4/1/.400 this week. Slacker.
Stud of the Week: Well, well… look who’s turned things around… Justin Verlander had a very nice week: 2/0/0.64/0.86/12.86
Dud of the Week: No, it’s not THOR, but Jobu could really use more from the #11 pick of the draft, Mr. Chipper Jones: 2/0/0/0/.176. PS, Brian Roberts stunk too.
Snot on the Ball DEF Swine Nine 6-4
For a team that really doesn’t care about winning, Snot can’t seem to avoid it. They’re now undefeated on the even weeks and both wins have been against playoff teams (if the season ended in May). Swine also suffered their first loss of the season… to his son… who’s not even trying to win… ouch. Swine is still sitting pretty atop the CAN’T division though, and they just got a significant upgrade at the C position as Mauer is back with a bang. Blog is calling it now… Swine should run away with the CAN’T division by the all-star break.
Stud of the Week: Raul Ibanez was so good, he HAD to leave Snot’s team: 5/3/9/0/.500.
Dud of the Week: Jose Reyes was so bad, he had to STAY on Snot’s team: 1/0/1/0/.048
Papi’s Space Cadets DEF Bobz Boyz 7-3
Here was another example of Generation 2 taking down Generation 1 as PSC has taken off to their best start ever in the CPL. The Boyz, on the other hand, haven’t won a week yet. Their win totals so far are 1,4,4,3. That’s not that good. That’s the exact same number of wins the Boyz had through 4 weeks last year. The difference? Last year the Boyz was Rookie. This year the Boyz had 20 picks in the first 13 rounds. What’s the problem? Besides drafting Scott Baker where he did, the reason for the lack of success is the amazingly consistent slow starts from his stars. Berkman, Sabathia and Liriano have been really bad. Quentin has some bombs but not much else. Alexei Ramirez, Tejada, Peralta, Chris Davis have all stunk so far. Some of these are understandable (Tejada’s been pretty bad the past few years, Peralta stinks), but normally you’d expect at least one of the other guys to perform. Nope. Meanwhile for Papi, Longoria and Youkilis have been super duper. And Jarrod Washburn?? Really? That can’t last.
Stud of the Week: Evan Longoria is on pace for 89 HR and 294 RBI. Don’t check it. 9/2/14/0/.379
Dud of the Week: BB had 4 regulars bat under .200. We’ll give this award to Chris Davis: 2/0/1/0/.158
Legends DEF Regulators 5-4-1
Crap. Regs was one HR away from a 5-4-1 win. Stupid Mark Teixeira. This matchup could end up being critical in the playoff race as these 2 teams are currently 5th and 6th in the standings. Eh, whatever. Good win Legends. I will now put a voodoo hex on your team. I predict that something terrible will happen to one of your star players (such as, oh, maybe Manny Ramirez) in week 5. You watch… it’s coming.
Stud of the Week: Dan Haren was very good, as he usually is in April/May, but Carl Crawford was awesome, and it’s my blog: 5/0/2/11/.385. (one more run would have been nice though Carl).
Dud of the Week: Mark Teixeira. I hope you choke on your $180 million. You turd. 3/0/0/0/.091.
Ryan Howitzers DEF Bounty Hunters 8-2
There is one unbeaten team in the CPL after week 4, and they also happen to be the #1 seed at the end of month one. The Howitzers win totals are 7,6,7,8, and the 6 was to the current #2 seed. This has been a fairly impressive month for the Howitzers. Not for the stats they’re putting up, which have been above average but not dominant, but for the just being able to beat the team they’re playing that week. I just don’t know if this team has the pitching to stay in the top tier down the stretch. Lowe, Gallardo and Hamels are solid, but will they be enough to take wins, era, whip or k/9 when RH’s opponent actually has a good week? This very easily could have been a 5-5 final score. BH… well… there are some solid players that should bring back some nice picks for 2010 as we get closer to the trade deadline. (Why is Villanueva still on that roster again?)
Stud of the Week: Jorge Cantu? Really? RH is winning with Jorge Cantu? 6/4/14/0/.346
Dud of the Week: Whatever happened to Russell Martin? 0/0/1/1/.182
Player of the Week: I think it has to be Cantu… geesh…
Pitcher of the Week: Verlander. Welcome back to the land of the aces.
Manager of the Week: Karma Kameleons. Don’t get too comfortable in this spot…

Week 3 Review 2009
Regulators DEF Snot on the Ball* 7-3
The matchup between the 07 and 08 champions looses a bit of luster when only one of the teams has the stones to contend for a title each year. Regardless, Regs won for the 2nd week in a row and was back at .500 for the season. Snot continued to change team names, propose a dozen offers a day and relax until draft day 2010. Regulators had a fantastic pitching week that was slightly anti-climactic. Regs set the all-time league records for ERA (0.48) and WHIP (0.89), but didn't take wins (5-3). Regs starters only gave up 3 ER all week. That is pretty cool.
Stud of the Week: Greinke, Vazquez, Felix and Josh Johsnon all had top notch starts... but a pitcher would really have to toss a no-no to be a stud on only one start. Mike Lowell had a very solid week: 3/2/3/0/.444
Dud of the Week: BJ Upton apparently can only hit in the postseason against the Red Sox: 1/0/0/0/.000
Swine Nine Def Bounty Hunters 8-2
Well, Um, Bounty Hunters may wish for a new start to the season here. Meanwhile, Swine is liking 2009 just fine. Swine took 4 offensive categories despite Matt Holliday hitting .190, Brandon Phillips hitting .182 and Carlos Pena hitting .150 (guess which offensive category Swine lost...). Marco Scutaro also hit .118 but, you know, he's Marco Scutaro. After 3 weeks, BH is has the fewest HR in the league with 26. BH and Karma (27) are the only teams with less than 30. The Bounty Hunters should place a bounty on power. Thank you... try the veal.
Stud of the Week: Johan had a very nice start, but this week belonged to Carlos Lee, who decided to begin the 2009 season: 6/4/8/0/.320
Dud of the Week: Remember way long ago when Geovany Soto was a solid fantasy catcher? 2/0/1/0/.150
Ryan Howitzers DEF Legends 7-2
The #3 team through week 3 is the Ryan Howitzers. The same team that threw up a week 3 pitching line of: 3/1/4.62/1.18/6.93, is 20-8-2 so far. FYI, RH won 3 of those very mediocre pitcing categories (bravo Legends). Maybe the schedule has been favorable (unlikely) or flukey (possibly) but there sits RH, % points behind Papi for tops in the Can division. RH has been carried by the offense so far. They are 11-3-1 offensively so far. That's pretty good. They also have a 4.40 era and a 1.273 WHIP through 3 weeks... but they're undefeated so far in those categories... that's flukey. Legends... well... There was a time when Josh Beckett, Jimmy Rollins and A-Rod were fantasy gold... that time was 2007. It doesn't appear to be 2009.
Stud of the Week: Curtis Granderson baby: 7/4/6/1/.333
Dud of the Week: Legends had 4, that's right FOUR pitchers with ERA's over 14 (Ryan, Burnett, Beckett and Perez), but Matt Lindstrom posted these beauties: 0/0/94.50/10.50/13.50. Look at those K's!
Jobu's Hats for Bats DEF Bobz Boyz 5-4-1
After much higher expectations this year, Bobz Boyz can't catch a break so far in 2009. They also can't catch an ERA under 4.41. BB is 2-12-1 so far in the pitching categories, hence the 9-18-3 record. The names are there: Sabathia, Liriano, Shields, Garza, um... uh... baker..., but they just haven't been good so far. Sabathia was awful in April last year too, so there is hope, but that's been small consolation for the Boyz. On the bright side, Sexei Alexei finally showed up. As for Jobu, there have been a couple of mediocre weeks since his drubbing of the kameleons in week one. Jobu is the only team batting above .300 after week 3, and they set the season record in week 3 batting .321. That was still a lousy trade though.
Stud of the Week: Jay Bruce and Carlos Beltran both were excellent, but THOR is still the dominant fantasy force: 7/3/11/3/.450. (Blog will henceforth refer to Pujols as THOR).
Dud of the Week: Matt Kemp was pretty awful, but he did get a steal. Carlos Quentin did not: 2/0/1/0/.136
Papi's Space Cadets DEF WW3B 8-2
Papi destroyed WW3B. Blog has a sinking suspicion that the preceding sentence will be repeated throughout the season, only with various teams in the first slot. ie: Swine Nine destroyed WW3B. Or, Regulators destroyed WW3B. Or the mighty ducks destroyed WW3B, or the Santa Lucia Senior Softball All-Stars destroyed WW3B. After 3 weeks, WW3B holds the low record for 4 categories: 33R, 1SB, .227avg, 5.68 K/9. (BH holds 4 records, and Snot has the other 2). KK has won 3 offensive categories and 4 pitching categories. All 4 pitching wins were against Bobz Boyz in week 2. Papi continues to roll. Their week 3 numbers weren't great, but they were good enough this week for Papi to take the reigns of the CAN division.
Stud of the Week: There were some nice weeks here, but nothing really THORish. Let's go with Torii Hunter: 8/3/6/0/.385
Dud of the Week: Troy Tulowitzki has issues: 1/0/0/0/.000
Player of the Week: All Hail THOR.
Pitcher of the Week:Like I said, Johan was pretty darn good.
Manager of the Week: Ryan Howitzers taking down Legends 7-2-1 gives him the week 3 crown.
Week 4 will be up tomorrow...

Week 2 Review 2009
which brings us to…
Week 2 Review
Regulators DEF (sure… whatever) Bounty 5-4-1
Man… The awful thing about this score for Regs is that it absolutely should have been 6-3 AT LEAST. These 2 teams tied Saves (3) and BH won HR by one, but get this… Joel freakin Hanrahan, the so-called closer for the Nationals, got his first 2 save opportunities this week… and blew them both! Joel Hanrahan cost Regs saves and week 2, and may have cost the Red Sox Hanley Ramirez since now the Marlins are like 30-1 and unlikely to move the SS. Stupid Joel Hanrahan. Also, as of late Sunday afternoon, HR were tied 10-10 until Stupid Kyle Farnsworth served up a game winning HR to BH’s Michael Young. How is Kyle Farnsworth still in the majors? He’s awful... Anyway, there were some league records set in this matchup. One by Regs and 2 by BH, both not really something to brag about, and both a direct result of owning Chien-Ming Wang. Now, records have only been kept back to last year, but a record is a record. Regs threw up a K/9 of 11.61, breaking the previous record of 11.32 held by Snot-Dude (week 16 of ’08). Bounty Hunters beat his own worst ERA record with an 8.54 (previous record: 7.17 in week 10 of ‘08) and he broke Karma Kameleons (Total Recallers) worst WHIP record with a 1.88 (previous record of 1.69 in week 9). Bravo.
Stud of the Week: Ian Kinsler is having quite a season so far: 9/2/6/6/.556
Dud of the Week: For the second week in a row… it’s the Wanger! 0/0/61.71/7.29/7.71. Those numbers are really awesome. Alas, with the sad news that Chien-Ming Wang was cut on Sunday, there won’t be a 3rd week in a row of dudness for the Wanger.
Jobu’s Hats for Bats TIED Swine Nine 5-5
The first and third ranked teams after week one clashed in week two, and decided absolutely nothing. The biggest news made by either of these teams came Saturday morning with the posting of a potential commish deal, which Blog absolutely hates for one team. Jobu offered Cameron Maybin and… wait for it… a 3rd round pick to Dude for Adam Lind. Blog would like to put word out that if Jobu feels the need to continue to donate 2010 picks, that the Regs would be happy with a 5th and maybe a 7th. Now, Snot has made his intentions clear for this year. First: acquire young talent that could develop over the year with the intent to trade that talent to a contender for picks. Second: upgrade Snots 2009 picks for better 2010 picks (ie: Team A sends Snot a player and his 4th for a player and Snot’s 5th.) Snot doesn’t need the rest of the league’s help in his mission. Snot doesn’t need 3rd round picks sent to him for a player who was a free agent just 5 days ago!! Was Adam Lind’s week so electric, dynamic, historic that his value went from a 22nd round pick to a 3rd? Really? Sources say that Snot would have sent Lind for Maybin straight up!! Jobu at least should have received another pick coming back. At least it seems apparent that Jobu is selling his 2010 soul for a 2009 title.
Back to this matchup, Swine hit 15 homers (W) but only batted .233 (L). At least Randy Johnson showed up yesterday for Jobu….but man… what a bad trade…
Stud of the Week: Matt Kemp almost took this award with his Sunday alone: 8/2/9/3/.391
Dud of the Week: When a first round pick puts up Alex Rios numbers (2/0/0/0/.182), that usually guarantees Dud honors, but not when a keeper named Brandon Phillips does this: 1/0/1/0/.067. ouchy.
Ryan Howitzers DEF Papi’s Space Cadets 6-4
The second and fourth ranked teams also met up in week 2, and #4 scored the ‘upset’ with a one category victory. That one category may have been saves, where Papi’s 4 closers could only muster 3 saves. For the math challenged out there, that’s less than one save per closer for the week… Papi’s looking at you Mike Gonzalez and Kevin Gregg. Brad Lidge had his 40 something straight saves streak snapped, so we’ll give him a break. There just wasn’t a lot of top shelf pitching in this matchup. One win for RH? That’s pretty bad, but they were still able to take ERA and WHIP. It may be time for Papi’s Space Cadets to change their name to something more relevant like ‘Popup’s Space Cadets’ or ‘The Puny Papi’. Ortiz is in a very bad way right now.
Stud of the Week: Miggy was awesome again, and so was Youk, but any time you get double digits anything from a MI, it’s a good week. Mark DeRosa: 6/2/10/0/.345
Dud of the Week: Tulo, Werth and Granderson all stunk, but the Big Dud is Big Papi: 1/0/1/0/.143. sigh…
Legends DEF Snot-Dude… oh wait… no, my bad… Snot-Dude DEF Legends 6-4
Well this one has to sting. Anytime you lose all 5 offensive categories to the likes of Ethier, Ibanez and Cruz it’s going to sting. The first rematch of the last 2 teams standing in 2008, Legends has to hope that this one doesn’t come back to bite. But still, this was a very solid performance from Snot-Dude considering 1. where he drafted and 2. he doesn’t care about W/L this year. Is Ethier worth a 3rd round pick? Ibanez? Probably not, but they would have made a lot more sense than Adam Lind… Look what you did Jobu! I’m becoming obsessed with denigrating that deal!! Legends sure could have used an SB or 2 from his Shortstops (Rollins/OC), as that was the closest offensive category (6-5). Legends could also use A-rod back asap.
Stud of the Week: Andre Ethier was the 3rd ranked player in yahoo last week (behind Kinsler and Kemp). Ibanez was the 5th. 3rd is better than 5th, so Ethier wins: 8/4/12/0/.391
Dud of the Week: Orlando Cabrera wasn’t very good: 3/0/1/0/.160
WW3B DEF Bobz Boyz 5-4-1
WW3B finally won an offensive category in week 2 (SB 4-3), but it was in the pitching department where they showed some promise and life. solid numbers in W, ERA, WHIP and K/9 gave WW3B some hope after getting throttled in week one by Jobu. BB has the offense clicking nicely, but alas, the Scott Baker experience is slow in getting rolling. BB also was hoping for better starts from his 2 TB aces, Shields and Garza. Lee, Danks, Cueto, Meche, Kershaw and Saunders all posted ERA’s under 2. That’s good by the way. Blog doesn’t want to get his hopes up, but WW3B’s offense could be historic bad. Stay tuned…
Stud of the Week: Had Kershaw gotten the win he deserved from his start (1.29/.29/16.71), it would be him, but without the W, this goes to Mr. Carlos Quentin Sir: 6/5/9/0/.333. That 5 number is pretty big for a week.
Dud of the Week: 3 players hit .100 this week. That’s 2/20 for all 3 of them. Those players are: Prince Fielder, Alexei Ramirez, and Alexi Casilla. Choosing which one of these 3 had the worst week is like choosing which bill needs to be paid first. Yuck. But we here at Blog make hard choices, and we’ll go with Sexei Alexei once again, since Prince at least had 2 R and 3 RBI. Ramirez went 0/0/1/0/.100. Way to step up first rounder!
Hitter of the Week: I’m bias, but Yahoo has him #1, so Blog does too: Ian Kinsler
Pitcher of the Week: I’m bias, but Yahoo has him #1 for pitcher (4 overall), so Blog does too: Zack Greinke (2/0/0.00/1.07/12.21)
Manager of the Week: This week it’s more obvious than last week. Snot-Dude (Stop with the name changing!@!!) gets his first win of the season, and manages not just to sell the Brooklyn bridge, but actually has someone offer to overpay for it!. I can’t promise I’ll be over this by next week.
