Week 4 Review… Better Late Than Never! Week 5 should be up by Wednesday...
Karma Kameleons DEF Jobu’s Hats for Bats 7-3
Now that’s how you get back some dignity, KK! After having their already flaming team name changed by Jobu to resemble mutated mammaries, KK exacted some revenge by handing Jobu their first loss of the season in week 4. This win brought Karma within 9 games of a .500 record… wait… that’s still lousy… scratch that last stat. After starting out as well as you possibly can, Jobu has been decidedly mediocre since, posting a 13-16-1 record between weeks 2-4. That’s called ‘missing an opportunity’. This loss was clearly the fault of THOR, who only went 5/2/4/1/.400 this week. Slacker.
Stud of the Week: Well, well… look who’s turned things around… Justin Verlander had a very nice week: 2/0/0.64/0.86/12.86
Dud of the Week: No, it’s not THOR, but Jobu could really use more from the #11 pick of the draft, Mr. Chipper Jones: 2/0/0/0/.176. PS, Brian Roberts stunk too.
Snot on the Ball DEF Swine Nine 6-4
For a team that really doesn’t care about winning, Snot can’t seem to avoid it. They’re now undefeated on the even weeks and both wins have been against playoff teams (if the season ended in May). Swine also suffered their first loss of the season… to his son… who’s not even trying to win… ouch. Swine is still sitting pretty atop the CAN’T division though, and they just got a significant upgrade at the C position as Mauer is back with a bang. Blog is calling it now… Swine should run away with the CAN’T division by the all-star break.
Stud of the Week: Raul Ibanez was so good, he HAD to leave Snot’s team: 5/3/9/0/.500.
Dud of the Week: Jose Reyes was so bad, he had to STAY on Snot’s team: 1/0/1/0/.048
Papi’s Space Cadets DEF Bobz Boyz 7-3
Here was another example of Generation 2 taking down Generation 1 as PSC has taken off to their best start ever in the CPL. The Boyz, on the other hand, haven’t won a week yet. Their win totals so far are 1,4,4,3. That’s not that good. That’s the exact same number of wins the Boyz had through 4 weeks last year. The difference? Last year the Boyz was Rookie. This year the Boyz had 20 picks in the first 13 rounds. What’s the problem? Besides drafting Scott Baker where he did, the reason for the lack of success is the amazingly consistent slow starts from his stars. Berkman, Sabathia and Liriano have been really bad. Quentin has some bombs but not much else. Alexei Ramirez, Tejada, Peralta, Chris Davis have all stunk so far. Some of these are understandable (Tejada’s been pretty bad the past few years, Peralta stinks), but normally you’d expect at least one of the other guys to perform. Nope. Meanwhile for Papi, Longoria and Youkilis have been super duper. And Jarrod Washburn?? Really? That can’t last.
Stud of the Week: Evan Longoria is on pace for 89 HR and 294 RBI. Don’t check it. 9/2/14/0/.379
Dud of the Week: BB had 4 regulars bat under .200. We’ll give this award to Chris Davis: 2/0/1/0/.158
Legends DEF Regulators 5-4-1
Crap. Regs was one HR away from a 5-4-1 win. Stupid Mark Teixeira. This matchup could end up being critical in the playoff race as these 2 teams are currently 5th and 6th in the standings. Eh, whatever. Good win Legends. I will now put a voodoo hex on your team. I predict that something terrible will happen to one of your star players (such as, oh, maybe Manny Ramirez) in week 5. You watch… it’s coming.
Stud of the Week: Dan Haren was very good, as he usually is in April/May, but Carl Crawford was awesome, and it’s my blog: 5/0/2/11/.385. (one more run would have been nice though Carl).
Dud of the Week: Mark Teixeira. I hope you choke on your $180 million. You turd. 3/0/0/0/.091.
Ryan Howitzers DEF Bounty Hunters 8-2
There is one unbeaten team in the CPL after week 4, and they also happen to be the #1 seed at the end of month one. The Howitzers win totals are 7,6,7,8, and the 6 was to the current #2 seed. This has been a fairly impressive month for the Howitzers. Not for the stats they’re putting up, which have been above average but not dominant, but for the just being able to beat the team they’re playing that week. I just don’t know if this team has the pitching to stay in the top tier down the stretch. Lowe, Gallardo and Hamels are solid, but will they be enough to take wins, era, whip or k/9 when RH’s opponent actually has a good week? This very easily could have been a 5-5 final score. BH… well… there are some solid players that should bring back some nice picks for 2010 as we get closer to the trade deadline. (Why is Villanueva still on that roster again?)
Stud of the Week: Jorge Cantu? Really? RH is winning with Jorge Cantu? 6/4/14/0/.346
Dud of the Week: Whatever happened to Russell Martin? 0/0/1/1/.182
Player of the Week: I think it has to be Cantu… geesh…
Pitcher of the Week: Verlander. Welcome back to the land of the aces.
Manager of the Week: Karma Kameleons. Don’t get too comfortable in this spot…
